Meaning of the numbers written on the check
23 numbers are written on the check in four different parts. This 23 already six digit number tells your check number. Each check is different. Actually one check has 000042 while the next check has 000043. If you are giving or taking a check to someone, the check number should be written down. If the check is lost or the money is not deposited in the account, you can get the status of the check from this number.

9 numbers are written in the second part. It is a MICR code which stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. These numbers are divided into three different parts. It shows the city, bank and branch where the check is issued. This in a way tells about your bank branch. By looking at this number, you can know from which city the check has come. The next three digits are the unique code of the bank. Through this code you can get more information about the bank. The last three digits are the branch code. Every bank has its own unique branch code. This code is used in all bank related transactions. (Cheque number)

The last six digits means
the six digits printed in the third part means that your account is maintained by RBI. This number helps when the check goes to RBI for processing. The last two digits are the transaction code. From this it is known whether the check is for current account or savings account.
