Akbar was considered one of the wisest rulers. Some historians believe that he was a despotic ruler. On the other hand, some historians say that among the Mughals, Akbar was a ruler who disciplined the people of the court and established an administration that would benefit the subjects. (Mughal history)

Emperor Akbar himself used to monitor whether the Mughal administration was working properly. He used to work more than 16 hours for that. According to the court historian Abul Fazal, Akbar had a habit that he always followed. He made this habit to the people of his court as well as to the high officials of the administration. He himself used to get up two hours before sunrise to avoid any kind of laziness.

Abul Fazal mentions about the routine of Emperor Akbar. He said that Akbar used to get up two hours before sunrise and after bathing and meditation, he would give the subjects a clear vision with the first rays of the sun. By that time most of the men and women, traders, farmers and other businessmen used to gather together to see the emperor.

After visiting Jharokha, Emperor Akbar used to listen to the grievances of his subjects for four and a half hours in the Diwan-e-Aam. According to the book History of Mughal India, Akbar would listen to grievances but also order redressal. After listening to the complaints of the common people, he used to sit in Diwan-e-Aam for an hour and a half with the courtiers and complete the administrative tasks.(Mughal history)

After the meeting in the Diwan-e-Aam, Akbar would inspect the Haram and interact with other officials in the palace. After this he would recite the afternoon prayer and rest for some time after the meal. After waking up in the afternoon, he used to go to observe the animals.

After doing all these things he used to go to the court attached to the Diwan-e-Khas and there discuss the important affairs of the state. In the evening, after reciting Namaz, he would converse with scholars and spend some time afterwards in entertainment. After the last prayer of the night, he used to go to the bedroom. He used to do this routine every day and get it done by others in the court.
