Why is Kalbhairava given first importance in Kashi?

The city of Kashi in Uttar Pradesh is a major place of interest for all Indians. The Kashi Vishwanath temple, the chief of the twelve Jyotirlingas, has been around since time immemorial. Kashi is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. As Baba Bholenath, Bhagwan Shankara is chanted just for a while. But the devotees who come to Kashi, the city of Baba Bhole, worship the Kotwala of Kashi before Lord Shankara. Kalabhairava is revered in Kashi as the Kotwal of Kashi. There is a saying in Kashi about this, first worship ' Kashi Kotwal ' and then do other Pujas...Kalbhairava is known as Kashike Kotwal in Kashi. Baba Kalbhairava is worshiped here first if any religious work is to be done. There is a great religious belief behind this.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is hailed as the favorite place of Lord Shankara. Devotees believe that Lord Shankar resides with Mother Parvati in this city of Kashi. Lord Shankar is known as the King of Kashi. Baba Kal Bhairav is known as the guard i.e. Kotwal of the king of Kashi. Baba Bhole's favorite city, Kashi, is said to have the desire of Kalabhairava. In the city of Kashi, no work can be done without the will of Kalabhairava. For this, the Kotwala of this Kashi is first worshipped, and his permission is sought. Kashi also has a police station near the temple of Baba Vishwanath. Devotees believe that Kalbhairav himself guards this police station. The Kalabhairava temple, recognized as a place of great awakening, is also mentioned in the Mahabharata and the Upanishads.

Many people wonder who is Kalbhairav. It is also asked who appointed him as Kotwal of Kashi. A mythological story is told in Kashi for this. Accordingly, once there was a discussion between Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu on who is greater. This discussion further turned into an argument. At this time the fifth face of Lord Brahma criticized Lord Shankara. Hearing this criticism, Lord Shankara got angry. From the same raga, a part of Lord Shankara appeared in the form of Kalabhairava. This Kalabhairava (Kalabhairava) cut the fifth face of Brahmaji who was criticizing Shankara with his fingernails. Kalabhairava cut the fifth face of Brahmaji but that face did not separate from Kalabhairava's hands. At this time, Lord Shankar visited Kalbhairava.

He ordered Kalabhairava to roam around the three worlds like a common man to remove the guilt of killing Brahma. While doing this, it is said that wherever Brahma's fifth face is freed from Kalabhairava's hand, Kalabhairava will be freed from his sin of murder. Baba Bhairava traveled to all the three worlds on foot after getting the order of Lord Shankara. Yesterday Bhairav Baba reached Kashi Nagar after traveling with all three people. Yesterday, when Bhairav Baba reached the banks of the Ganges in the city of Kashi, Brahmaji's head separated from his hands. As soon as Kalbhairav was freed from his sins , Lord Shankar appeared. He ordered Kalabhairava to stay in this city of Kashi and do penance. Kalabhairava then settled in the city, and Kashi began to protect the city. Only after Kalbhairav came to Kashi city Lord Shankar along with Mother Parvati stayed in this city.

Lord Shankara actually made Kalbhairava the guardian of Kashi i.e. Kotwal, so the practice of worshiping Kalbhairava first started. It is also said that one who does not worship Kalabhairava in Kashi does not get the fruit of worshiping Baba Vishwanath. In Kashi it is said that even Yamaraj himself cannot take anyone's life without the consent of Kalabhairava. Kalabhairava's temple attracts a large number of devotees on Sundays and Tuesdays. On these two occasions there is a big aarti of Kalabhairava. At this time, the sound of drums , bells and damru makes the devotees deaf. This tradition has been going on for many years. Believing that the one who protects Baba Shankar, why won't he protect us, the devotees get absorbed in the feet of the Kalabhairavas, i.e. the Kotwala of Kashi.
